Dr. Mohamad Mikati, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine announced that Dr. Pascale Karam joined the department as instructor of pediatrics effective April 1.
Dr. Karam graduated with an MD from St Joseph University, Lebanon in 1991. She completed three years of residency training at Hotel Dieu de France University Hospital in 1994. Then, she left for France where she completed two years of fellowship in inborn errors of metabolism at Robert Debré Hospital in 1995, and at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, Paris, in 1996.
Dr. Karam has a unique and advanced experience in the field of inborn errors of metabolism, and is also a busy private practitioner. She was appointed as instructor at St. Joseph University Medical School in 1999, and clinical associate with admitting and consultation privileges at Hotel Dieu de France, Rizk Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and Ste. Therese Hospital, as well as a private consultant to many other hospitals in Lebanon. She was appointed as clinical associate with consultation privileges in the Department of Pediatrics at AUBMC in 2000.
Dr. Karam will be seeing general pediatrics and metabolic cases in the Pediatric Private Clinics. She will continue to see patients in the OPD metabolic clinic and conduct research in the area of inborn errors of metabolism. Dr. Karam is also expected to cover the General Pediatric clinics at the University Health Services.
